Thanks to the flexible nature of my job and our family's preference for experiences over material possessions. Subscribing to services that alert us to discounted flights and sales is one strategy we employ. We're also keen users of reward programs, frequently using credit cards’ points to redeem flights or hotel stays. This approach enables us to explore more of the world without breaking the bank.
I decided to travel solo for the freedom to explore at my own pace, allowing me to immerse myself more deeply in local cultures and adapt my itinerary on the fly. Traveling alone suits my fast-moving nature, as I often find it hard for others to keep up. Solo journeys provide valuable alone time for reflection, rethinking, and reviewing, sparking new inspirations and thoughts. As a female solo traveler, I've taken self-defense classes and remain vigilant, ensuring my safety while embracing the adventures of solo travel.
Traveling with my kids, aged 4 and 5, has been part of our lives since they were 1 and 2, so they've grown into the routine. We pack smart, including comfort items and a kit with snacks and spare clothes. For entertainment, we bring a mix of their favorite books and games, and involve them in the planning—asking for their input on what they'd like to do. On the road, we always incorporate kid-friendly destinations, allowing them to help with small tasks to feel involved. Keeping a flexible schedule is key, with plenty of room for rest and spontaneous play, making the journey enjoyable for everyone.
Essential items for me include a versatile wardrobe that can be layered to suit various climates and cultures, travel-sized toiletries, essential documents like passport and visas, a power bank, portable phone charger and tripod, and a reliable travel adapter. I also pack a first-aid kit, safety items like a whistle and door lock, and always bring my reusable water bottle to stay hydrated.
I often use a combination of travel blogs, local tourism websites, and cultural guides to prepare for my trips. For up-to-date travel advisories and health information, I rely on the official government travel websites.
I keep my wardrobe practical yet fashionable; alongside versatile basics, I always pack a few cute dresses so I don't dress athletically all the time. These dresses are perfect for a nice evening out, a concert or show,or when I want to feel a bit more dressed up. For my photography gear, I stick to a lightweight mirrorless camera, a select few lenses, and a compact tripod, all of which fit into my padded camera bag that also serves as a daypack. It's about balancing function with style, and ensuring I can move comfortably and capture the beauty around me.
